The incident happened about 5:30 p.m. Saturday near the corner of West 11th Street and Sixth Avenue in the Lower East Side, about 35 miles south of the borough of New York City, the sources said.

The officers involved said that a man tried to pull a knife on the officers and that they called police and got in their patrol car, where they responded to a call of a domestic disturbance, the sources said.

The man pulled his knife and attacked the officers, hitting one in the face, sources said.

The man was treated at the scene and released, the sources said.
