In the past, a combat veteran was trained to use only "the most basic of weapons," such as heavy machine guns, rocket launchers, and artillery, or to use a specialized weapon, such as rockets. It was then quickly changed to being trained to use "the most advanced of weapons" – including armored vehicles, long-range bombers, and other anti-tank weapons.

"This new training has a lot of impact on the way that the US military sees the world," Michael McBride, senior analyst for the JMI team, told Business Insider. "You'll see new training programs and weapons for use in the field. The goal now is to develop and train a new generation of combat veterans who can use the most advanced weapons in the world."
