The original theory of Jack the Ripper's origin was that his victims were prostitutes, lured to his hotel by a former member of his "family," who was then forced by one of Jack's former lovers to marry the same prostitute for $10. The original theory of Jack's victims being prostitutes who were lured to his hotel by a former lover was that his victims were prostitutes who were then coerced to marry him. This theory never made it into any published work, and has been debunked by a few studies.  But in a recent paper, published in the Journal of Forensic Sciences, three of the five victims of Jack the Ripper's crimes were now officially tied to prostitutes.

And, yes, these four were all prostitutes, too. When they were killed, Jack himself says that he was the one who brought them to the hotel. And they were all prostitutes. And the way they were tied to him was all the same—one-sided—as any other murder.

Jack the Ripper was not the only one who brought these four murders to light. One of the serial killers, William E. Hutton, was also involved in the murders. He's now in Florida. And when Jack was discovered alive, Hutton had been in Miami for the murder trial. A detective later came to the hotel, but he couldn't make it there. "He had been in New Orleans at the time, so we couldn't get to him," says a New Orleans police detective. "We're not sure if he's in Miami or in New Orleans. We're not sure of the location of the hotel or if he's in Miami."

The only person who may have possibly met them, for whom one of them had a history of sexual assault, was Hutton, who died in 1987.

In 1988, Hutton's body was found in a New Orleans hotel. "We were very surprised to find out just how close we were to the victim," says a detective, "because we couldn't find any trace of Hutton in this body."

For years there was speculation that Jack was not, in fact, a serial killer. In a 1998 New Orleans newspaper interview, Hutton said he "had no knowledge of any murders committed by serial killers, which would be impossible." (One of those murders was committed by "the one who brought them to the hotel.")

But it is one of his murders that's really making the rounds right now, and it's a mystery that's being left to the detectives and
