The 'new algorithm”, which NEC says was developed by SSP and applied in the UK, was developed by local and national law enforcement agencies and was first used as part of a major police-community engagement programme in April.

"The accuracy of this algorithm has been greatly improved thanks to the addition of our new algorithm," said police commissioner Michael Gove at the time.

NEC says it is also working with SSP to develop a new 'New Match System'. The scheme, which will include a new form of computer-generated match data, will allow for the detection of false-positive matches. SSP Commissioner Michael Gove was also unequivocal in his assessment of the lack of consistency in their response to false-positive matches by the Welsh Police during the 2017 and 2018 season.

"We know the Welsh Police have been underperforming their efforts, and we believe that the Welsh Police need to look at their own performance," said Gove.
