Mr. Deutsch, who was born in Germany and is the first black man ever appointed chief engineer, has been a leader in the company's board of directors and board of directors since 2007, when it formed in 2010.

The company has a market capitalization of about $4 billion, about half from the $2.6 billion that it had in 2006. It has hired more than 2,400 people this year and is expected to hire more than 2,500 employees by the end of the year, its chief executive said.

Mr. Deutsch, who had been in charge of the company for 22 years, said he and other leaders in the company have had "a long and successful relationship in this room." Mr. Deutsch also said he was proud of those who have helped him improve.

It is unclear how many people have joined the company, which has about 12,000 employees, but Mr. Deutsch said his staff has worked around the clock on the company's business development efforts and has been "very involved in the process."

"I think the way we're working is the way we're working," he said. "This is a new beginning in our company and we want to bring the same things to our people and our employees, both here and in our organization."
