The film's first major break came in its release, at a screening of The Man Who Loved Me, a film that also contained the work of Rene Russo (The Black Swan, The Black Keys, The White Stripes), Jake Gyllenhaal and David Fincher. (As usual, the audience was very, very enthralled by their performances.)
A lot of the new material has been written (from Robert Plant's The Man with the Dark Crystal, to an Oscar-nominated new film by Jason Momoa) but it's worth noting that the main character, Velvet Buzzsaw, is the subject of two more, a new trilogy of two-part films (one for The Man Who Loved Me , and one for Nightcrawler ), which will hit theaters in July 2015. The film follows Velvet Buzzsaw as she struggles to find her own way after her father's suicide, which she blames on her father for the deaths of her parents and a former lover.
The first of the two, Nightcrawler, is based on a book by Michael Moorcock and published by Universal in 2015. It follows a boy named Mike, a child with autism, who becomes obsessed with the art of taking pictures of himself, and eventually, his father. In addition to being the subject of a film about his own life, it's also a sequel to a book about his mother's life and also explores his own struggles with schizophrenia.
I got the chance to play an early scene with David Fincher, who has made the most of his time in the spotlight with Nightcrawler, in the premiere at the London Film Festival. It was a great opportunity for us to take a moment out of the film's busy calendar and to see how all three pieces of work are doing.
The third film is Nightcrawler: The Golden Age of Marvel Comics , a sequel to Nightcrawler to which Matt Murdock and Marvel's Iron Man are members, to be released in 2016. It's a story about a young man who fights alongside his old enemy, Dr. Luke Cage and his two older brothers, Cage's father, and his new love, the Hulk.
For those unfamiliar with this, it's a post-apocalyptic thriller written by Michael Moorcock and published by Universal, and is set in San Francisco's Silver Lake neighborhood. It's about a family who are forced to relocate after the events of Nightcrawler. For some of you, it's not a spoiler, but it's
