The episode opens with the story of the Simpsons' first, half-season, and the episode then concludes on the same subject, "The Simpsons meets Game of Thrones." In this episode, the two characters meet in the basement of a small diner, and their next meeting is the first of three, all about the "family."

The Simpsons meets Game of Thrones "I'm a huge fan of them," Groening's character, Matt Groening, explains to the crowd after the episode finishes. "I'm very happy that they are doing this show. We've been looking forward to it for so long, and now we feel like we have an idea and we're going to do it right."
