The Electron booster carried three Cygnus satellites.
The Electron booster carried three Cygnus satellites.
A new constellation, known as the Spacecraft Management System (SCM), would allow for more accurate guidance of spacecraft in space, and could provide additional capabilities to help steer spacecraft into the orbit of other spacecraft in the future. The SCM would include three additional satellites in orbit: two in orbit, one in orbit, and one in orbit, which would enable for more precise guidance. The agency will launch three satellites into orbit and then send them back to Earth.
The first of these three satellites, the Dragon 6 , was launched into orbit on June 25, 2010. The capsule will use a Boeing 537-300 "Jumbo Jet" spacecraft and use a new Atlas V rocket design, which incorporates the first stage's design, and a redesigned, new launch control system.
A second Dragon 6 payload, the Dragon A8 and Dragon B8 , was launched on July 3, 2010, successfully completing a mission to carry the Dragon 6 into orbit.
Spacecraft Management System (SCM) will be used to provide a better view of spacecraft in space. It will allow for the ability of the spacecraft to be configured in a way that is less prone to vibration during flight. The spacecraft will be able to use its own, independent computer in the spacecraft to control the spacecraft's attitude.
The other three satellites will be used for a second launch.
Spacecraft Management System (SCM) will consist of three main elements. Scrambled to the right of the Spacecraft Management System (SCM), are the main components of the rocket, the Dragon spacecraft and the boosters.
The third component, the Dragon R2 , will be used to deploy the Dragon 6 into orbit.
The Dragon R2 will be used for its primary mission, to deliver the Dragon 6 to the International Space Station in December.
With the Dragon A8, a new design for the Dragon R2, was also used for the second launch and a second launch later that year.
A fourth booster, the Dragon A12 and Dragon A17 , will also be used to deliver the Dragon 6 into orbit.
In a separate launch, the Dragon R1 was used for a second launch, to deliver the Dragon 6 to the International Space Station in November.
In an attempt to complete the mission, the agency sent two satellites into orbit. They are the Dragon spacecraft, the Dragon A12 and the Dragon A17, and the Dragon
