The Android OS is the most important thing to us today. It's basically what Google is giving us.

Why is the Android OS so important? First, it's the first thing that's getting added to our car-operating-system business. Second, Android is the most important thing to us today, because it gives us the power to make the car you want to drive smarter and faster.

Car makers see it differently, saying the Android OS is a key component to their car business. The iPhone, for example, is designed to look like your car's own operating system, and it's built to support the features of the iPhone. "Google is trying to drive an ecosystem that's different from a car," said David Burd, the president and CEO of CarPlay, in a May 2013 blog post. In other words: what makes a car the car you want to drive is what makes it the car you want to drive, not how that car works. You must build the OS and then build it into your car. And while you'll probably never need to build a car as a car-driver, you have to work with it.

"And we're not just building a car that's fast, we're building a car that's reliable and reliable in every conceivable way. We're building a car that's easy, easy to operate and that really works well."

I wrote about the Android OS last year, and in the process I wrote about how we're trying to build the OS to be the first car to support it. The point of this post was to break down the Android OS in a little more detail. What makes a car the car you want to drive?
