"Some argue that the FTC's decision to close the investigation is a misguided attempt to punish Google for using its network to conduct search and search advertising in search products and services that the FTC is not paying attention to," the letter, which has been shared with Ars, reads.

The letter is signed by a total of 12 members, including the FTC Director J. Michael Isikoff (D), Google's deputy counsel, and senior counsel for the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, which has been investigating Google for the past five years.

"Our government has the right to scrutinize every search engine every time it is used to sell products or services that the government considers not fit for purpose," the letter states.

The FCC is investigating Google for $4.2 billion in 2010 and 2011, plus its subsidiary, Google-owned Bhopal.

Google has not responded to Ars' request for comment.A man who allegedly tried to rape his mother at a park in Sydney last year is facing life and death imprisonment after the woman claimed he raped her when she was three years old.

Dr John MacLean, who is currently an assistant psychiatrist at the Commonwealth Hospital in Sydney, was at the park with his mother and sister at around 3am Saturday and was stopped at a petrol station, reports The Sun.

He allegedly raped the mother before he got out of his vehicle and walked out.

As he fled and attempted to enter the park, he allegedly punched the woman several times.

He reportedly then allegedly grabbed the woman's waistband and then attempted to kick her in the vagina.

The woman said that the three were trying to get out of the park when the man left as he was trying to pull the woman to his vehicle.

The rape happened as he was driving from a hotel in Sydney's CBD to a shopping centre in Brisbane.
