Posted by Josh Klemko at 4:42 PMA new video has emerged of the young couple attempting to get inside a house in a remote part of the state, where they are believed to have been brutally attacked.

A number of people are believed to have gathered at the house in Derry while the couple were inside, where the attack took place.

A man who identified himself as a neighbour who has been named by police as Shane O'Dowd says the couple were "very lucky" to have been outside.

'They did not have anything to eat'

The video shows the man attempting to climb out of the front door of the house, where the attack took place.

His partner, who was not identified, tried to climb inside the house, but he was too weak to make it through.

He told the News Independent: "They did not have anything to eat and they did not have anything to drink.

"They did not have anything to drink and they did not have a lot of water.

"They had their coffee and they had their cigarettes on and they were pretty weak."

The video shows the men leaving behind the couple, who were dressed in jeans and black t-shirts, on a street near the house.

The woman, who is described as the grandmother of the couple, told the News Independent: "I just saw her getting on her motorcycle and I said, 'I don't know where you're going to get her.

"She just went out of her mind. A week on I didn't know she was going to be here."

The woman said the men then took off in front of her house with a handgun.

It is understood they were following the woman on the street when the attack took place.

It is believed the couple were attacked by three men who attacked them at a pub, but the woman said they didn't attack anybody.

Another man - who has not been named - told the News Independent the men had thrown the woman by the shoulder and he thought she was going to run away.

The woman said she was left alone with the husband and they ran away.

She said: "They were very shocked. I don't know why they didn't have anything to eat, they didn't have anything to drink and they did not have a lot of water.

"They were very lucky to have been outside."
