Of course, this isn't the first time a project has been floated to try to build voting technology. Last year, Google partnered with the Electronic Frontier Foundation to get an idea of how to vote online. The project, described as a "platform for a decentralized, decentralized voting system," launched in May, and it's still only two weeks from its initial launch.

But as The New York Times points out , the possibilities are wide open.

"What we've seen with some of the first-party applications of this technology is that the voter is able to identify and register their vote on their desktop devices," said Patrick R. McAfee, a professor at the University of California, Irvine. But, he added, "If you try to do both in the same election, you're at a disadvantage."

There's still a lot to learn about voting technology and who can vote online, but today's article suggests it's time for more research into how the technology can be used to vote.

If you've been waiting to vote for an election you're likely to have heard similar stories about the digital voting revolution of the past.

The Internet of Things will allow machines to send data to or from your living room.

It's not quite the same as voting in the election, where you can vote online via the same device or device.
