New to the Vega 10 are performance-enhancing enhancements. The 7nm process gives Vega 20 a 28 percent increase in performance over the Vega 14 and Vega 10. Vega 20 is also optimized for 3D rendering. The new design also allows Vega 20 to deliver a 60 percent increase in shader cores per square millimeter of power, compared with the 6 percent power boost in the previous generation.
The 7nm process allows Vega 20 to take advantage of a new generation of transistors. In particular, the 7nm process uses a new manufacturing approach, one that's optimized for more cost efficient manufacturing.
The 7nm process also has twice the number of transistors in the Vega 10's design compared to previous Vega generations. The Vega 10 and Vega 14 both use 8 transistors per square millimeter of power. So, using a higher performance version of that technology requires more energy.

Vega 10's GPU architecture allows for more compute units. This makes Vega 10 faster than the Vega 14's for a large scale, high performance GPU. This is Vega's second big performance boost. In February, AMD put out a full-page ad touting the new design and Vega 10's performance. This time around, it was about a quarter of the way through. AMD also unveiled the new graphics card: the Radeon RX Vega 10. But what made the announcement so interesting was that the graphics card's performance wasn't a lot better when compared to the RX Vega 10's new graphics card.
