In late October, Musk announced that he was hiring two new employees to operate the first Tesla Model 3. According to a media report, the first is an experienced public-private engineer "who has been a driving force behind the development of all the projects in the transportation industry." A spokesman for Musk said that the Model 3 could be available by January 2017. The Virginia Mercury reported yesterday that Musk was also working on the project's first fully autonomous vehicle.

The Virginia Mercury reported today that Tesla has reached a deal with state transportation officials to develop two experimental superconductors that will allow the company to produce more power from Tesla's batteries. The superconductors will power the Model 3's motors, which will be mounted on a battery pack at the Model S's factory in Virginia. The Virginia Mercury reported that Musk had said that he wants Tesla to make the Model 3 "very inexpensive."

Tesla has been working with Virginia transportation officials on a new plan to make the Model S more efficient to take off the road.  The Virginia Mercury reported that the state is working on "a plan to make an electric vehicle more energy efficient than a gasoline powered car." The state is also planning a $2 billion plan to develop more efficient transportation systems that will make Virginia the first state to become a leading supplier of lithium-ion batteries.

When asked if Tesla has any plans to make its Model 3 more efficient, a spokesperson for Musk refused to comment at this time.
