"In a way, the 'S' in [gamers'] faces is an acknowledgement of their sexuality and that they are playing to see if they can find the perfect game," Sarkeesian told Ars Technica. "With the 'S' being a way to talk about that [sexist] stuff you have to think about where those things came from and what they're coming from as well."
To address these issues, Feminist Frequency's research team is working with a group of game writers and game publishers to craft a project called Tropes Vs. Women, a video game series that aims to offer an open-ended critique of what it calls the "oppressive" (or anti-intellectual) label used by gaming journalists.
"I think this is a really good idea to think about the ways that we as gamers have taken a very positive stance against the gender binary on video games," said Anita Sarkeesian, who is a co-founder of Feminist Frequency. "I think it's important for us to see that there are people who aren't going to like that for the reasons you're talking about here.
"It's not just about the 'S' in [gamers'] faces. It's about the oppression these games create for LGBTQ people—because there are so many people who are suffering under these games that are marginalized. I think that's just a really good idea to think about that."
With this project, we think about the ways that we don't see the "oppressive" gender binary on video games.

I think that's really about the fact that there are so many people who are struggling to make games. I think that's really about the fact that there are so many people who aren't going to like that for the reasons you're talking about here.
