But the numbers of female tick clones were smaller, and the only way to detect the male was with lethal force.

The new species of tick may be found in the wild, in areas like the New England forests where the tick is endemic and where it has been recorded as a tick in the US. The tick has been reported off-patrol in many parts of the eastern and central United States, but the researchers said the species is only found in the western and central portions of the Northeast, where the tick population has been reported.

"These species may be found in areas where the population is relatively low," said study co-author Brian W. Coyle, of Cornell University. "They have been found off the coast, in parts of the Northeast where they have been reported, and are in the New England forests, too." But it's unclear whether the tick is native to the US or where it comes from.

Coyle's team found that the species has a population in the New England area.

"The New England area is where they are most susceptible to the Listed Species," Coyle said.

Walking over to the top of the tree, Coyle said, the tick was not visible and that the tree was just too heavy to be seen.

The researchers said that while the tick's population may be low, it is not a known presence in the New England forests. The study did indicate that Listed Species are found and associated with more than 100 different species of ticks, though the species' exact geographic distribution was not known.

"The New England tick is a very important and important tick species, and we have to be very careful in determining who is actually the Listed Species," said study co-author Andrew T. Gaffney, a veterinarian at the National Centers for Environmental Health Sciences.

The researchers, who have not yet mapped the tick's geographic distribution, said that the Listed Species are likely to be found in the New England forests. However, they said their findings should be used to protect other tick populations and that in the future, the species should be included in studies on other tick populations in the United States, including one from southern California.

The study, which was funded by the National Science Foundation, was published online today in the journal Nature Communications.
