As the industry continues to iterate, it has to be careful not to throw away so many new devices. We've been working hard to bring USB-C to PCs and smartphones for several years now. The first major milestone is the first USB-C port for the Galaxy S6, which we're announcing today.
Apple's new iPad 2 is going to use the new Thunderbolt 3 port. The new adapter is a 10-pin to 12-pin connector that allows you to connect multiple devices. While there are new options on the market, the iPad 2 will still support the Thunderbolt 3 standard.

Apple's MacBook Pro is the first real iPad 2 port to run Thunderbolt 3. The new USB-A port allows your MacBook Pro to use standard USB 3.1. The new Thunderbolt 3 port is available now. You'll also be able to choose from two different modes of charging, a standard USB-C mode (like with the MacBook Pro) and a USB-C 2.0 mode (like on the iPad).
