The decision to keep Ahrendts, who is a self-employed engineer, and the board of directors will be made by Cook, according to sources familiar with the matter.
According to a statement from Apple’s board of directors, Ahrendts was a key catalyst behind Apple's transformation of its customer base, making it the leading brand in the online shopping and e-commerce sector. And she told CNET earlier this year that Apple is "very much looking at the future and the future of its brand," adding that Apple "has been committed to bringing people back to their homes and into this new world that we're creating."
The announcement comes in the midst of the new Apple Store, which debuted in June .
Apple's new retail store is expected to be the first step in a process of rebranding Apple Stores , which were purchased by Wal-Mart Stores Inc. in early 2017 . The move comes after Apple purchased the U.S. retailer for $1.1 billion in May.
