After a recent visit to the company's manufacturing facility on the South Korean peninsula, the company's founder Elon Musk announced he would be heading to the U.S. in August for a 10-day visit.

The company has been making significant progress in the past year and a half with the launch of the first Falcon Heavy rocket and the first Dragon capsule in the third stage of the Dragon capsule.

"SpaceX is very excited about this milestone," Musk said on his website. "We are very pleased with SpaceX's next step with the first stage production of the Dragon capsule and the Dragon ERS-1C in space."

This mission was SpaceX's first with a single payload and is the first with a single launch vehicle, SpaceX said in a statement.

SpaceX will be the first of three Falcon Heavy rocket launches in 2017.

The Dragon capsule is the first to go into space and is SpaceX's second rocket launched. It has been in development for about a decade and started in 2014.

SpaceX is one of Russia's most active space-launch companies and has an annual budget of about $150 billion.

The first stage of the Falcon Heavy rocket will be delivered to the International Space Station by the end of the year.
